原文来源:scet.berkeley.edu/students/courses/ 官方公告

(Attendance Policy)

Active participation and consistent attendance are essential components of student success in SCET courses. The learning outcomes for our courses are highly dependent on in-person instruction, collaborative activities, team activities, and group-based learning experiences that cannot be replicated outside of the classroom or individually.

Attendance Requirement

Students who miss more than three (3) class sessions for classes that meet 1x/week or six (6) class sessions for classes that meet 2x/week during the semester will not be able to pass the course, regardless of performance on assignments or assessments.

Students who miss any component of ENGIN 183B BMOE Bootcamp will not pass the course.

Excused Absences

While the University recognizes and provides accommodations for formally excused absences, the structure and outcomes of SCET courses require in-person engagement and individual work cannot be created to meet learning outcomes. Therefore, excused absences still count toward the three (3) / six (6) absence limit.

Students are responsible for managing their attendance, ensuring attendance is tracked, keeping track of absences, and communicating proactively with instructors regarding any missed class.

Q: Is there an attendance policy to be eligible to enroll?

A: Attendance on the first day of class is required for all SCET courses. Enrolled students who want to maintain their spot or waitlisted students seeking enrollment must fulfill this attendance requirement. Failure to attend or obtain an approved absence will result in the student being dropped from the course and/or waitlist.

(Assignment & Team Policy)

SCET courses are designed to reflect the real-world dynamics of startup teams. Group work is a core component — not just for learning, but for assessment. Students are evaluated by their peers and mentors as part of the grading process which simulates professional collaboration environments.

No Individual Extensions of Group Assignments

Due to the concurrent and interdependent nature of team work, individual extension requests cannot be accommodated. An extension for one team member disrupts the overall project timeline and affects the entire group's progress.

No Individual Work Substitutions

Individual submissions cannot replace team-based assignments. Collaboration, communication, and shared responsibility are core course objectives, and completing work independently does not meet these learning outcomes.

Live Feedback Sessions

Live feedback sessions are an integral component of the course. These sessions provide essential, real-time input from instructors and mentors that supports iterative learning and team development. All team members are expected to attend and engage in live feedback sessions.

Q: Does SCET allow auditing?

A: SCET does not allow auditing in our courses due to the high level of group work and limited classroom space available. All students in attendance must take the course for credit to gain access to course materials.

Q: Why do some classes have an application?

A: Some classes require an application to help us create a balanced mix of students from different majors and backgrounds, similar to diverse interdisciplinary teams in industry.
